So...I finally gave in to my back and forth debate of starting up a blog. Actually, I decided to go nuts and start 2 blogs, one for the family and the other for my cake journey.
Recently, I've had a great time stumbling across random blogs online and just getting ideas and inspiration to bake and decorate cakes. So, for my 1st blog, I've decided to post about a recipe I found online recently and decided to try. I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to "organize" this blog, so please bear with me. I'm still learning how to navigate through this whole blogging thing and figuring out how to put things together on here, so we'll see what happens.
About 2 weeks ago, as I was browsing the web for inspiration and cake ideas, I ran across a recipe for the Perfect Party Cake by Dorie Greenspan. Being relatively new to this whole realm of "all things cake", my means of finding recipes have just been through random searches. As I looked for more details on this particular cake, I came across this cool site where tons (and I mean tons) of people signed up to participate in this sort of baking "club".
Apparently, every month, a designated person in the group gets to choose a recipe and the rest of the members are challenged to make the same recipe. Depending on who gets to choose the recipe, they decide whether variations or deviations are allowed from the chosen recipe. There are other details too but I haven't totally looked into them. Anyway, I thought about possibly joining, but with the other million things I have on my plate, I wasn't really sure I could commit to such a task, as fun as it sounded. Who knows, as life starts to slow down for me, I may sign up eventually. After reading endless blogs, it seemed like people really enjoy this group (actually, there are many groups out there similar to this one).
And, after rummaging through many great reviews about this recipe, I decided to give it a try. I did make a few changes to the recipe, however, because it was a lemon-y type of cake and not very many people in my family or circle of friends seem to dig that citrus-y taste. So, my attempt at this cake was modified to exclude the lemon and replace it with white chocolate. Boy was it tasty!
